Today I am excited to announce that Moxiecode, the team behind TinyMCE, will be joining Ephox. The TinyMCE project, MoxieManager, and Plupload will become part of the Ephox family of products.

Why are we joining with Moxiecode? We have had a partnership for the last five years that enabled us to sell TinyMCE enterprise offerings. Over that period, we’ve come to understand the impact that TinyMCE has had on developers of all shapes and sizes. Just as important, we learned that our two companies had a shared vision of the future. Both companies believed we could better serve the developers of the world by becoming one team.

Why do we believe in TinyMCE? TinyMCE is the most popular JavaScript library for embedding Word processor capabilities into applications. The TinyMCE open source library is downloaded by developers more than 400,000 a month and embedded in thousands of apps, including WordPress, Joomla, and Moodle. It is the number one way that people around the world write, edit and collaborate on web content. Almost every large software company in the world uses TinyMCE in their applications to provide WYSIWYG content editing features to their end-users. This merger enables us to increase the distribution of our technology and the impact we can make as a company.

What does this mean for Ephox products? Ephox was founded in 1999 when we released our first API for online editing. Over time, we grew our product line to include three families of online editing solutions: EditLive!, a powerful rich text editing solution developed in Java; Textbox.io, our newest HTML5/JavaScript solution; and TinyMCE Enterprise. We will continue to invest in all of our product lines and over time we plan to increase the sharing of technology between our projects, as we have already done with our Microsoft Word filtering algorithms.

What does this mean for our customers? Our commitment to our products and the support of our customers is unwavering. With this merger, we will be redoubling our focus on online content creation. We will continue striving to make our customer’s applications fabulous and their users ecstatic. We have an unparalleled depth of experience in this surprisingly complex space that enables our customers to be successful in building content, marketing, learning, collaboration and email applications.

What does this mean for our team? Ephox is beyond excited to have two of the world’s leading experts in JavaScript and WYSIWYG editing join our team. Moxiecode founders Johan “Spocke” Sörlin and Joakim Lindkvist will be leading up a new Ephox Sweden office based in Umeå that will grow as a result of our merger. Our main base of development will continue to be in Brisbane, Australia, and our HQ in Palo Alto, California.

Looking towards the future. TinyMCE is hugely popular, and we want to make it more so. You will see a new website, improved documentation, new features, an updated UI and an increased number of bug fixes in the coming months. In the not too distant future, we will look to leverage our existing Textbox.io cloud infrastructure to deliver a TinyMCE API from the cloud. Speaking of Textbox.io, we will continue to make significant investments in Textbox.io, our next generation JavaScript editor for desktop and mobile devices. We will also continue to support and enhance our EditLive! offering, the most feature rich editor in the market for online editing and Java desktop applications.

We really appreciate your support and look forward to building more great things with the TinyMCE team and community.
