TinyMCE Blog Contribution Guidelines

Thanks for your interest in pitching a guest post for the TinyMCE blog.

Occasionally, we accept professional contributions from guest writers, so if you’d like to pitch an idea, here are our general guidelines. The nitty-gritty ‘How-to’ details are towards the end, but all the information below is relevant to the successful acceptance of your pitch.

WHY PITCH A GUEST POST?

  • The TinyMCE blog averages 60K page views a month, while our monthly newsletter reaches over 100K developers. Guest posting on our blog presents your work to our audience, increases your domain/subject authority and improves your own site’s SEO, via backlinks.
  • If published, your article may be included in our social media coverage, tied into our cross-link network and possibly included in our monthly developer newsletter.

AUDIENCE: All guest posts should be tailored towards one of our audiences – Software Developers, SaaS Product Managers, or Content Writers.

AUTHOR: Like our own audience, the author of the post should be either a professional developer, professional SaaS marketer, content writer, subject matter expert or connected to the rich text editing or content sectors of their respective industries. Any experience level is welcome.

PRODUCT FOCUS: Our key product is the TinyMCE Rich Text Editor (also referred to as a WYSIWYG rich text editor) and its range of 50+ plugins.

While guest contributions are not required to focus or promote our product and its plugins, it’s desirable that the article is reflective of the tools and practices used by developers, marketers and product managers who actively work with these types of WYSIWYG editor tools.

LENGTH AND TYPE OF CONTENT: Articles should be evergreen in nature, be between 800-1500 words in length, contain actionable advice or detailed insights and written to a professional standard. All technical posts should include code snippets and/or demos.

Please review the posts already published, consider the types of posts and topics that fall within each of our blog categories, follow the tone of voice already established and match the writing quality required.

PURPOSE: The focus of every article should be to educate, inform or inspire our readers. Self-promotional articles will not be considered, although links to authoritative and helpful resources, research, or articles are encouraged, as long as they are verifiable sources and not solely your own work.

FORMATTING: Articles should be formatted with H1, H2, H3 and H4 headings as well as numbered lists, headers, bullets and/or other engaging formatting. Articles can be submitted in Google Docs, Microsoft Word, or Markdown file formats.

OWNERSHIP AND ORIGINALITY: Articles should be unique and original to the TinyMCE blog. They should not be published elsewhere online, although you’re welcome to pre-promote an excerpt of the article on your own site, newsletter or social media, with a link to the full article on the TinyMCE site.

When promoting your article, please attribute the content by noting the TinyMCE blog as the canonical source, with an anchor text link to the original post URL.

SEO: All article submissions are reviewed by our SEO specialist and any changes that are recommended will be done either during our editing process, or if a more fundamental change in the content and/or context is required, they are the responsibility of the author to implement.

Please note that in order to optimize the guest post, we reserve the right to modify or remove any links the author has placed within the article.

BACKLINKS: Please include a brief bio with your article that contains a headshot and link to your website, blog or social media. Only one author bio backlink is included.

No more than one link to your website/blog can be included within the body of the article and it cannot link to a promotional piece/sales page or a link-building scheme. A total of two backlinks (1 x author bio and 1 x article body) are available to guest authors.

Please note that we do not pay for backlinks, sponsor posts or participate in any partnership programs or site banner arrangements.

HOW TO PITCH AN ARTICLE TOPIC/IDEA:

To pitch a guest post, please:

  • Email us at marketing@tiugotech.com with:
    1. Pitch us 2-3 topic/title ideas and synopsis for each (see below)
    2. Links to your own website/blog
    3. Links to at least three related articles you've personally authored.
  • Each topic/title submission should include:
    1. A short synopsis for each idea – this can be either a summary paragraph or an article outline (h1-h4 headings). The synopsis should clearly indicate how the article relates to our audience and/or the use of a WYSIWYG editor.
    2. Which audience it serves (Software Developers, SaaS Product Managers or Content Writers)
    3. The problem it’s trying to solve
    4. The keyword/phrase being targeted.

We’ll review your ideas and respond within 14 days.

  • The blog is focused on providing information on the technical aspects and uses of a WYSIWYG rich text editor. Therefore, all articles must relate to this foundational aspect and offer specific, practical information that our audiences can apply to the use of their rich text editor.
  • Generalized listicle style articles on software and SaaS will not be considered.
  • If your article idea isn’t a good fit, then we hold no legal right to publish the material, and you’re welcome to submit the article elsewhere or publish it on your own site.
  • You are free to resubmit further ideas, using the same process.
  • If your article idea is accepted, a first draft of the article needs to be supplied within 30 days of acceptance and if any edits/reworks are required on the first draft, they must be returned to us within 14 days. Please expect that two rounds of edits may be required to satisfy our readers' needs and standards.

Please note that we receive many pitches, and only those that adhere to all of the above requirements, will be considered and possibly progress to the writing phase.

BEFORE PITCHING AN IDEA, MAKE SURE YOU AGREE TO THESE POINTS:

  • We maintain the right to edit and adapt your guest article (ie. spelling, grammar, sentence and paragraph structure, formatting, links, tone of voice) as we see fit, remove links for SEO optimization and update it in the future for accuracy and comprehensiveness.
  • Articles are required to include proper attribution of data, quotations and any outside content referenced in the article. Note: All attributed data or research should have originated in the last two years.
  • We maintain the right to reject pitches and submissions, or to request that you revise and resubmit it to better tailor the article to our readers. You can decide to decline our request and the post then returns to you for publishing elsewhere.
  • We also reserve the right to choose both an image and post title that we feel best fits our blog and its readers, as well as CTAs to TinyMCE content and activities.
  • If future updates to the article are required, and the changes comprise more than 50% of the original article, we reserve the right to change the authorship to the editor/rewriter.
  • We do not publish anything that has already been published elsewhere.
  • Depending on our existing editorial calendar, your article may not be published immediately upon acceptance. However, before finalizing it, a proposed publishing date would be shared with you. Please understand this date may further change if our editorial publishing calendar so requires.
  • By contacting us, you represent and warrant that your article is your original work and does not contain any objectionable or libelous material, or breaches copyright.
  • If published, you agree to not republish your guest post in any digital or printed form, on any websites, blogs, or other platforms, and that it will permanently reside within our blog archives.
  • If your article is published, you agree to accept all terms as stated in our guidelines.

Once again, thank you for your interest in writing for TinyMCE. If you have any questions, please reach out to us and we're excited to hear back from you soon.
